So breaking into Hollywood is all about nepotism, right? Well, not in my experience. So when I got into Hollywood, not only did I not have family members in Hollywood, I didn’t even know anyone who lived in LA. I moved from New York. I knew no one, and I got in. I think if you’re saying it’s all about nepotism or who you know, that’s just a lie you’re telling yourself so that you don’t have to work extra hard to get in.
In my 25 years as a writer, I’ve maybe you’ve worked with 100 or 200 writers or whatever. I can only think of two of them that had family members in the business. And both those writers were extremely talented. I don’t think they got in because their family members were in the business. I think they got in because they inherited some of their mom and father’s talent. And that’s why they got in. If you also think it’s about who you know, well that’s part of your job is to know people and meet people. So don’t make excuses to not acheive your dreams.
